Open lecture dealing with the correlation between art, science and visual design with the purpose of creating realistic environments. Exploring the beautiful complexity and diversity that brings games and movies to life.

The Territory Studio team is currently working on projects such as Pacific Rim Uprising and Ready Player One. They’re also credited with some of the extraordinary visuals in the games Killzone 3, Forza Motorsport 6, and Need for Speed, as well as the movies Blade Runner 2049, The Martian, Ex_Machina, and Prometheus.

BELGRADE, SERBIA (March 14, 2018) In 2017, Nordeus delivered a series of highly successful lectures from industry experts such as Henry LeBounta and Ron Ashtiani. Hundreds of guests, including students and representatives of the local gaming and VFX industry had the privilege of listening to, and learning, from some of the greatest creators of the gaming and movie industry. This year, Nordeus is proud to continue this tradition with Territory Studio Creative Director, David Sheldon-Hicks.

David’s career spans the digital media and music video industries. His passion for art and creativity eventually led him to the world of games and movies. In 2010, David founded Territory Studio, where he assumed the position of Creative Director.

With offices in San Francisco and London, Territory Studio has become one of the most prestigious studios worldwide and their team has worked on the VFX of hits such as Blade Runner 2049, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Martian, Ex_Machina and Prometheus.

In his talk, David will look at the correlation between art, science and visual design with the purpose of creating realistic environments. He will explore the beautiful complexity and diversity that brings games and movies to life.

“Games and movies present us with meticulously crafted worlds, which ultimately serve as an inexhaustible source of fun and inspiration, but which also stimulate us into examining our perception of what’s plausible,” said David Sheldon-Hicks. “The questions that remain are what is it that ultimately drives us to believe in these unbelievable worlds and how can we, as designers, take advantage of these insights for the purpose of being able to face the real challenges that await us.”

We couldn’t imagine the popularity of these lectures when we started them. Our early commitment to the creative community was to open our doors at Nordeus and bring the best international speakers to share knowledge locally. As part of that, I’m excited to have David in Belgrade to kick-off this year’s roster of speakers,” said Daryl Clewlow, Head of Art at Nordeus. “The idea of knowledge sharing and working on the advancement of the local community who share our passion is why we started this. Keep turning up and we will keep delivering.

David Sheldon-Hicks’s lecture will take place at the Fabrika club (Bulevar Despota Stefana 115 — the entrance is in Poenkareova), on March 15 at 18:00 h.

With constant investments in the creative community, Nordeus’s goal — together with the support of organizations such as  Startit and Nova Iskra — is to provide as many opportunities for professional development and advancement as possible.

When we formed Nordeus in 2010, with a football management game in development and an initial team of just three engineers, we were acutely aware that it was impossible to make a good game without amazing artists.
