Last week, Nordeus supported War Child UK as they launched the War Child Football Club, an initiative set up to use the power of football to improve the lives of young people who live in conflict areas. Top Eleven was part of that announcement, to help raise awareness and fundraise for this amazing initiative, as we launched the special edition War Child FC kits and emblem in our club shop. You can support and download the kits and emblem yourself here.
War Child is an NGO that was set-up to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in conflict. Their projects have expanded to reach conflict zones across the world, wherever children are caught up in wars – whether they’ve lost their homes, families, school, or been forced to take part in atrocities.
Their aim is to reach children as early as possible when it breaks out and stay to support them through their recovery, helping to keep them safe and equip them with skills for the future.
Children don’t start wars, but they’re the majority of people affected by them. It’s a sentence that really hit home with us. With War Child FC, the charity are combining football with psychosocial support and life skills interventions, the football club looks to help equip children and young people with the skills needed to rebuild their futures following conflict.
War Child FC is a global initiative, and aims to introduce football-based projects in six of the countries where they currently operate: Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Jordan and the occupied Palestinian territories. With the first War Child FC being launched in Central African Republic.
Frederique*, former child soldier form Central African Republic said “Life is very difficult here. When I see other kids playing football I have to join them. I love football. I am happy to come to the War Child Centre here. I can forget my troubles for a while. I dream of one day having a house and a family.”
As well as the kits and emblem in Top Eleven, the team will also be organizing a live event in-game later in the year, with the proceeds going to the charity.
